"broken spout and no response from Chantal" 2009-02-09
By Bklyn Bookgrl (Brooklyn, NY)
We received this teapot months ago off our wedding registry and were so excited because it is a great design and from a reputable company. But the metal ring on the spout pulls off with the plastic cap so we are pouring boiling water out of a raw metal edge. After calling Chantal's customer service and being told to email photos and doing so, then repeating the call and email after a couple months and no response, it's now six months later and still no response. This is a no longer reputable company in my view.

Had same problems as other reviewers with hot handle, hot plastic cap that needs removing with cloth, and boiling water exploding out of spout if it's too hot. Honestly, I could live with all these things, though. It's the broken spout that gets me.

 "Beautiful but NOT functional" 2009-01-01
By ywnyny
This is a beautiful tea kettle, however, it has some annoyances and some major flaws. The annoyances are that the handle does get hot and the whistle needs to be removed before pouring. The flaws are that if you do not fill the kettle completely before boiling water, the spout gets very hot and when you pour, boiling water spatters all over the place. On one occasion, so much steam had built up as a result of the hot spout, that the lid popped off and burned my hand. Be very careful when you use this kettle and make sure to fill it to the edge of the spout before using.

 "Eva Zeisel Chantal Teakettle" 2008-10-21
By Mercy Grace (Lubbock, Texas United States)
The teakettle arrived as stated and was beautiful as is everything done by the artist Eva Zeisel. The burnished finish is gorgeous and very elegant. The slanted handle is just that extra touch of unique that is so Zeisel. The teakettle is not only amazing in form, its technology makes it functional as well.

"Pretty good at the right price" 2008-09-18
By A. G. Goldberg (Los Angeles)
Had hoped the design would have a very cool handle and be "heat friendly". Reality is handle does get hot and the whiste spout must be removed with a cloth before pouring. That said, it is very pretty and well made. I paid $55.00 with shipping so I am happy.

 "Misrepresented product" 2007-11-07
By Real Person (Ukiah, CA USA)
Unfortunately, this Teakettle appears to only be available in enameled Red from Amazon, when I ordered it, it had been labeled brushed stainless steel. Amazon paid for an exchange and promptly sent me another red enameled teakettle. Needless to say they paid for the full return and now have labeled the kettle appropriately Red enamel. The picture misrepresents the description now as it indeed is still a brushed stainless steel kettle.

It looked nice, but I didn't take it out of the box.

 "Dribbles when pouring" 2009-12-10
By L. C. Sheppard
This kettle is quite handsome. The red is swell. It darkens a bit to a richer red when it gets hot, then returns to its original hue when it cools (the interior, surprisingly enough, is cobalt blue). The kettle is weighted well, a reassuring heft. The lid snaps smartly in place. The whistle is slightly on the piercing side. That is good if you don't want to forget that you're boiling water--it will certainly let you know that the water is steaming. I have returned my kettle, however, after using it once. I returned it because water trickled down the exterior of the spout to the base and spilled everywhere when pouring. No matter how fast or slow I poured water from the kettle, water dibbled and spilled. I was disheartened with this dysfuntion. Perhaps a faulty chrome ring at the tip of the spout is to blame? I could not decipher the issue and so returned it to MOMA, from whence it came. If you obtain one of these kettles and it doesn't dirbble, well, you'll have a fine tool. Personally, I will not attempt another, however.

"Love the Design of my EVA Teakettle " 2009-03-13
By Fay Kowitz (Orange, CA)
I just love the design of the EVA Teakettle. This kettle is a replacement for our 10+ years old, ever dependable, inexpensive enamel kettle that was starting to rust. When I started my teakettle selection process, I noticed I couldn't locate any local retailers that carried the EVA in stock so I could physically check it out for balance, weight, etc., prior to purchasing. I decided to go ahead and order it based on the few reviews online and Chantal's reputation for making excellent teakettles.

I ordered the Chili Red kettle and it is a beautiful addition to my stove top, as well as accent piece in my kitchen. I like the feel of this kettle very much. It has great balance and the capacity allows for enough water for several cups, but not too much weight for my not so young hands/wrists to handle with ease.

I thought it would be nice to have a whistling kettle this time around as my husband is using the kettle more often these days. He tends to travel thru the house while waiting for the water to boil. Chantal is known for their unique harmonic whistle. NOTE: The Eva does not come with a harmonic whistle, which was disappointing; but it does boast of a 'cheerful' whistle sound when boiling. Well, we got a screamer! So we don't use the whistle.

After less than 60 days of pleasurable use of the kettle, the sleeve at the end of the pour spout came off and will not stay on when re-inserted. I also noticed rust starting to form under the sleeve area. Yikes...I don't need that! I have contacted Chantal. They say they have not had this issue on the EVA before and are shipping me a free replacement kettle. I should receive it within the next week.

I will update my review once I have had time to evaluate the replacement kettle's usability. I cannot give a rating higher than a '3' based on my experience with the 1st EVA. I guess I am just stunned that it took less than 60 days for a $90 designer kettle to start rusting when my old inexpensive kettle took 10 years. I don't think my expectations are too high in this situation.

"Do not buy -- whistle dies quickly, bad service" 2009-10-03
By Chrysippus
While this tea kettle is pretty to look at, the harmonic whistle invariably dies after only a few months. In less than a year I have had to request replacement whistles four or five times. Changing the whistle involves removing the handle, which is secured by screws and bolts. This process weakens the flimsy bolts, and the handle can become dangerously loose. Soon I had to take the screw driver to the kettle once every few days. Once when I picked up the kettle with hot water in it, the main body separated from the handle and fell back down. Incidentally, one of my whistles arrived already broken. Buy this kettle if you like trouble -- I know other owners, and they report the same problem. Without abuse or accident, simple kitchen items are supposed last decades, if not a lifetime. This tea kettle requires repair more frequently than a computer.

This year (2009), because of the economic recession, Chantal cut down on their staff. While I was satisfied with their customer service before, I found my last interaction disappointing. Chantal changed the website so their customer service number is harder to find, and no live person ever picked up my three or four calls requesting for a replacement whistle. Someone did get back to my voicemail eventually, and while Chantal did send a replacement, it took more than a month and a few reminders. To be fair they sent me a replacement tea kettle, not just a whistle, but by then I've had enough. Incidentally, the customer service rep. was adamant that Chantal harmonic whistles are long-lasting. They break, the rep. said, only on kettles that the customer did not pay for the full price for. This absurd claim is an insult to the intelligence of Chantal's customers. A $40-50 kettle is a premium product, and until Chantal can provide quality service to justify the extra cost, I for one will deem it unwise to do business with them.

"The end of a long search" 2009-08-20
By Susan R. (Austin, TX)
I have been searching both on-line and in shops for a colorful and sturdy tea kettle. The plastic on the spout of my last Copco kettle burned on my gas range so I knew I wanted a kettle with no plastic parts near the heating element. This kettle is a lovely yellow, is easy to clean and makes a nice soft whistle when ready. The handle stays cool and there's no plastic close to the flame. My search is done.

"As Good As Tea Kettles Get (Too Bad None Are All That Great)" 2009-07-21
By Christopher T. Dahle (Del Norte, Colorado USA)
I have to remember that it's JUST a teakettle. We bought it for the fun color and the happy sounding whistle. It heats water. The lid fastens securely so you don't have to worry about it falling off and letting hot water splash all over. The handle feels securely mounted and you can pour hot water with one hand and not get scalded.

I just wish there was a silicone gasket on the pour spout because condensate is able to drip from the whistle and does so until the water in the kettle completely cools. This is very annoying if you are a neat-freak, which, really, I am not. But still, it's annoying to have to wipe up, and since we have lots of minerals in our water, I can see that there will soon be a crust of mineral precipitate underneath the pour spout, just like on every other tea kettle I've ever owned.

 "Technical flaw" 2008-10-31
By Glenn Doroshenko (New York, NY)
The craftsmanship of this kettle is outstanding. Paint is thick and rich, will change its shade a bit with temperature. The whistle is different here, it sounds more like locomotive signal - loud and low frequency. I used it on a gas stove and whistling nose lid (made of plastic) burned at the bottom a bit jamming the whistling element, and now lid does not close tight, therefore - no whistling. Looks like this kettle was designed with electrical cooker in mind.

The main lid tends to get stuck half way when I close it, allowing steam to escape, which leads to no whistling.

The handle is ergonomically located slightly on a back for no-strain pouring and is always cool enough to touch.

Time to boil is slightly longer due the spherical shape of this kettle.

LOVE this teakettle! After having used several traditional whistling kettles, I decided to give this one a try. No regrets! It adds a touch of cheerful color to the kitchen. The sound is really great and reminds me of a distant train. I am gladly and permanently bidding the shrill whistles "good-bye"! This is a "good buy"!
